The Pantheon Rome is the only completely
intact piece of Roman Architecture left in the world.
Located just a few minutes walk from the famous shopping
street of Via del Corso or Largo Argentina the Pantheon
is well worth a visit.
It is simply magnificent and no
visit to Rome is complete without a look inside where,
among other things you can find the remains of Donatello
the famous renaissance sculptor and Raphael the painter...
the Pantheon is held up by huge monolithic marble
pillars each weighing 90 tonnes which were miraculously
brought to Rome by sea from Egypt over 2000 years
ago.
Inside the Pantheon you should look
up and admire the "oculus" i.e. a hole in the roof
9 metres wide and a symbolic link between the Roman
worshippers and their gods. Curiously the Pantheon's
height is exactly the same as the radius of its' dome...
consequently inside it could host a perfect circle
or better still would be the perfect place for a fisheye
photo... if only they'd let Mr David McKie our photographer
inside this historic building !
